Earthscapes Garden Design is my profession and my passion. I grew up in southern Spain and it is there that I fell in love with the land: red earth, fields of scarlet poppies and the brilliant blue of the Mediterranean. Rusted tin cans planted with robust red geraniums hung in brilliant contrast to stark white-washed plaster walls in my village. The fragrance of orange blossoms sweetened the night air. Open-air markets overflowed with the riches and abundance of the cultivated earth. The landscape I fell in love with was one of dry, craggy cliffs, hills of knarled oak trees, ancient olive and orange orchards overlooking the sea. This sun-baked, arid landscape—so like California—is home to some of the most magnificent Mediterranean gardens in the world!

I returned to the Bay Area in my twenties, and for the next sixteen years I created beauty in the world of fashion. My sense of color and love of texture made fashion design a natural career for me. Now, years later, I have returned to my first true love: nature, the out-of- doors, and gardens. Working in the sunlight, creating beautiful environments that delight the senses is what inspires me most. Transforming a patch of tired, neglected earth into a vibrant, living environment is like making magic. A garden not only nourishes our souls but nurtures the fragile web of life around us in all its many layers.
